My little girl has her dew claws and has never had any issues. The same can be said for any dogs we have had growing up. It's not common practice to remove them here (as far as I know) and tail docking is now not allowed also (Thankfully! Nothing better than a waggy tail!).
I wish I could give more information on whether a dew claw could grow back or not. Maybe a call to the vet would clear it up for you |
grr my response was erased. I'm about to call the vet regarding her claritin dose. She's gained a pound (it was so hard to get her to gain, too) since they gave us the dose. I'll ask. Her nubs are indeed getting bigger. She uses her paws like hands, and it's so funny to watch. She'll hug me on my arm as we are playing tug of war, she'll pick up objects, including no no objects like she has hands. It's so funny and cute to watch. I've heard the dew claws are like thumbs for them giving them even more traction and an even better way to manipulate objects. It will be fantastic if they can and are growing. My poor daughter burst into tears when I told her her tail just needed trimmed on the hair- that it can't grow back. Now THAT was hard, as I agree with my daughter.
