This is a plant with no chlorophyll, it gathers it's nutrients from only decaying wood... it requires no sunlight apparently.

We didn't find any chanterelles on this trip, not many mushrooms at all actually, but we did enjoy our time cruising the rugged slopes of this area of the Cascades. Making our way through with out a trail, crawling over and under crisscrossed downed trees, walking among the fern, moss, salal and even some devil's club, the gang and I had a satisfying time in the woods and in camp.
