I'm another person who would opt for a smaller playmate.
If you do decide to go with a German Shepherd, make sure you find a quality breeder who breeds for good temperament. I would also invest in professional training unless you have advanced dog training skills. We adopted a large adult Airedale years ago and we were thankful that she had extensive professional training.
