During the night, a crate is a better choice- the skin really needs to breathe or it will be very irritated.

When I use bands on foster dogs, they wear them anytime they are out of the crate. I line mine with feminine pads. The heavy kind, for bad pee-ers. I check them and change them frequently (I check hourly or so), wash the actual bands every other day (I keep 2 on hand to trade out), and every time I change them or take them off, I wipe the belly area with a baby wipe or wet rag.
