Cody is adorable, even if he was being a little stinker.

I have 2 boys who think they are in charge of our walks. When Cody tries to direct things, keep your feet and body facing the direction you want to go. Stand still and wait until he gives up trying to pull in a different direction. Then say "Let's go" and move in the direction you want.

You can also try short intervals of zigzag patterns that force him to follow you. People around you will think you are nuts, but it helps with dogs who pull.

Things do get easier with age and use of keywords. When my boys sniff and mark too much in one spot, I happily say, "That's enough. Let's go."

When my boys seem to really not be paying attention to me, I will tease them a bit and say, "Stay right here. I'll be back." That gets their attention and they hustle along to follow me. They are on leash the whole time, but it is funny to watch them scramble to stay close to me. Then I say, "Oh, you are going to come?"
