Thanks so much for all of the suggestions. I think I'm going to check on K9 Advantix. I'm not absolutely positive that the tick was transported by the dogs, but I have seen live ticks on them. This has definitely been a wake up call for us.

DH was injured about a week prior to the tick when he was trimming ivy. He actually cut down into his finger with an electric trimmer. It cut into the bone. Because of this I insisted that he go to the ER when he developed fever and chills. As a precaution they gave him meds for tick fever because he told them he'd had a tick bite. The blood work came back yesterday that it is Rocky Mountain Spotted fever. Just googling it makes me ill. I'm so glad he had that terrible cut. Otherwise, he may have been much worse before getting help.
