My little one loves his plastic crate. We leave the door off the crate but it's in a soft sided play pen we call his tent. When I leave he goes in before I say anything, zip the door & he's snug as a bug in a rug.
When we first got him the crate door was closed, yeah, he didn't like it. But, I rarely had to leave him closed in. Maybe your Baby does need a wee bit bigger safe place.
I really recommend the soft sided play pen. Easy to fold up if you travel. Has a zip top so they can't climb out. I think I found my on e-bay for about $40.00.
