Get a good dog shampoo n conditioner. And a spray hose - I attach one to my laundry sink - or change out your shower head to a detachable one with the spray nozzle.

As Maximo (Kristen) said you essentially shampoo starting from root to tip and moving down the hair shaft. I let the conditioner in for at least five minutes and I wrap him in a towel for that time. Then I rinse out most but not all of the conditioner. Then I blot him dry after the final rinse and wrap in another towel again. Then onto the grooming table.

I like a soft bristle brush and once the hair is damp as I blow dry I brush out with the other hand. I have other combs n brushes but you could probably get away with just a soft bristle brush and a comb.
