Have you considered Presence?
You use an old iPhone or iPad as the camera and tiny cell phone as the remote. Have to br able to plug the old cell or iPad into power. There is an app you download to both phones.

There are various ways to set it up, but you can also talk to them. I have a friend who we set her's up to come on when her pup is near the phone and if she sees him barking she very gently gives him the no bark command she has been teaching him.

I rarely leave Cali alone because she is always with me, but if I do sometimes u just set up the iPad and I can see whatever is going on at home.

It is free ( well you can put purchase an upgrade) and takes a bit to get it set up but works well.
