I think it's true that most animals including dogs would prefer not to soil their sleeping area. She may have been confined by her previous owner for a longer period of time during the day and was not able to hold it that long and just became conditioned to it. Maybe an x-pen large enough to have her bed and piddle pad would work better for her.
