I would not do it with a pup that age either since there is no way I could allow them to operate. Just about any condition that it could be would respond to prednisone.
My DIL did it with her pup who suddenly went blind one day and was stumbling . She was 13 and they knew that even if it were a lesion, they would not put her through surgery. She responded very well to the prednisone...actually got her sight back! They had about 7 months of quality time with her after that.
I hope your baby responds to the prednisone...
