My little boy has no rhythm or reason for his barking. Most times when someone's at the door, looks out the window barks @ outside activities, a different noise. Then there are days he's very quite. I would be very careful bringing in a Yorkie to an apartment. Neighbors will hear him back. Dogs should never be punished for barking. Good luck
