Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Each Yorkie and situation is different.

If your family is on the go most of the day and the dog will be alone in your apartment, I would say there is a strong possibility of separation anxiety or boredom that will result in a lot of barking.

Most Yorkies are energetic and need a lot of stimulation and exercise. Without it, they will tend to bark more.

My boys do not bark all day, but certain noises will set off a barking jag.

Do you have children and how old are they? There are many Yorkies who get along great with kids, but many are not the best breed for kids. Even the most lovable Yorkies can be feisty. Being terriers, they tend not to be docile lap dogs. The smaller the Yorkie, the more fragile too.

If you are looking for a breed that tends to be more docile and relaxed, a Maltese or Pug might be a better choice. Or as someone suggested above, look for an adult Yorkie whose personality you can gauge.
