I haven't used the lanci so can't compared to the buddy belt however I'm pleased with the buddy belt for my girl Emma. I would wait initial she's an adult to purchase so you don't invest so much money into it. I did resale my Emma's puppy version of her buddy belt when she out grew it so that's an option.
Padding may not be necessary but it's a soft leather and you can meSure so it's not too uncomfortable for your puppy.
