ANYtime you even suspect a sting (which always releases venom) - give Benadryl ASAP, no matter what. You always want to err on the safe side when it comes to stings.

You should always have Benadryl in your doggie ER kit, already dosed and ready to give. The regular dose for it 1-2mg per pound, but for stings - DO give the 2mg/pound. If they won't take the cut up pill form, that's when you break out your liquid Benadryl and give that instead.
