I had the same worry about working full time and having a dog. I went a little crazy and ended up with a bonded pair to keep each other company. They are fine by themselves because they are pee pad trained and also can go outside. But love human companionship so I hired a dog walker.
My walker comes M-F and an occasional weekend when I know I am going to be gone for more than 5 hours. They love her to death and love their walks. This reminds me I owe her a bottle of wine for the mess she cleaned up yesterday for me.
