Yes, it's sounds VERY serious to me. Gosh, if this were me and a "friend" treated an animal in this way, they most certainly would no longer be considered a friend...forcing an animal to suffer like this.
Call the local Humane Ass'n and report her, for gosh sake. Do
something, please.
