Even though it is genetic, a supplement won't hurt. I have my kids on green lipped mussel for their joints.
Cost usually runs about 1200 per knee. You MAY be able to find it for less, however, make sure the vet who does it is experienced with the procedure and not cutting corners. I am fortunate my regular, long time vet is familiar with the procedure and was the one who did it on my little girl.
