They've been showing dogs of their own for many years and have a knack for presenting dogs well and the next thing they know, others start asking them to show their dogs. The next thing you know they are getting a bigger clientell.
Sometimes they'll be a youngster wanting to learn and one of the professional handlers will take them on for the summers to teach them the ropes. There is more then just handling the dog at a show, there is the care in between, the training and the responsibility of losing no coat, etc.
