Animal Smiley 049 Medial Petellar Luxaction

My furbaby is 1-1/2 year and recently thought she might have fractured or suffered sprain as she was not able to walk on her hind legs, which eventually took it's toll on her with depression, not eating, sleeping a lot. So the next day I took her to vet to complete x-ray. Upon examination doctor found her Petella out of place (bone popped out); after x-ray it was confirmed that indeed both back legs were inherited this by parent(s). It is also common among small breed dogs. My vet gave me a referral for surgeon/orthopedic to discuss possible options of medication for life or surgery.

My question is, has anyone gone through this?? What was the outcome and how much does something like this cost?
