If your vet suggested regular flea treatment, he must have seen fleas....or bites that looked like flea bites. One flea bite can set off a terrible reaction in pups and they will keep on biting in the area where they were bitten. When they pull the hair out, it will often come back as black hair. Sometimes it will lighten over time, but I have seen it stay dark for long periods.

As for allergies...if after the two week period the vet said to wait, she is still having issues you might want to consider blood testing for allergies....but only for environmental allergies. Testing for food allergies is a waste of time....and honestly it rarely is food when a pup is allergic. Food elimination diets are best for looking at food allergies, but much better to rule out the most common ones....environmental.

I know it is hard to wait, but honestly this does not sound like something dreadful. Give the vet a chance to get to the bottom of it....he may have already. Flea prevention is important...those nasty little bugs make a pup itch like crazy!
