Thanks to all for your suggestions, but I was lucky to rescue a young Shorkie who has been with us 4 days. She has bonded very well with us and we are learning a new routine (people and dog), that is coming together nicely!!
The 10 lb little girl was found roaming the streets (winter) and pregnant. The animal control picked her up, spayed her, and put her up for adoption. Although skittish of new people, with some TLC and time I think we can, and have, already seen improvement. She obviously had some training, and with my past experience with dogs, the corrections needed to improve her manners are very simple.
