These are a real and clear and present danger....I have lost a small dog to a bird of prey (owl or hawk, I couldnt tell as I watched in absolute transfixed horror as that huge ugly bird grabbed my poor little dog that was playing with me in the back yard in the middle of the neighborhood, not out in a ranch country area, and flew off with her screaming, clutched in those talons.....that happened way back in 1975...maybe 73...?...but I will NEVER get that sight out of my mind, and it is as terrifying to me now as it was then.

I would never allow my little dogs to run around alone, even in my fenced in back yard, any more than I would put a 14 month old baby on a highway esplanade to play unsupervised.
