I would also request the vet have an IV in place during surgery, in case there is an issue during surgery, they have immediate access to a vein....I thought ALL vets did this and was stunned to learn they do not! I always have an IV going during surgery, and they leave it in place after surgery to "tank them up" with fluid and glucose, to help cover them post op when they are not eating....they leave the IV in, giving IV fluid, right until I pick them up...of course, I always give mine Dr.Millers Nutra Drops every 8 hours post op for stress management....
