It seems like a plea for attention. At 8 months of age, you need to get the behavior under control, because the older they get, the harder they are to correct. Punishment doesn't work well at all. The best thing is to give a lot of effusive verbal praise and attention, and possible a healthy treat, every time he does the right thing. Has he been neutered yet? That might also help.
