Amazingly, I did not need to use anything for Mario. He did very well not messing up his stitches, and he was under extra stress since his neuter was done the day we adopted him (Pound rules . No going home with us until he was neutered).

We would have neutered him anyway, but IMO, it is just extra stressful on the poor little ones when they undergo surgery, then go home to a brand new environment and family all in the same day.
