As long as your vet is using up to date anesthetic protocols all should go well. BUT, be sure to have his blood work checked before hand to rule out any medical issues that could complicate things.
Honestly, the risk of a pup dying from renal or cardiac issues due to periodontal disease is much higher than the risk of dying from anesthesia. Dentals are very important!!
