I was in the same situation 2 years ago with my then 13 year old boy. He was in need of a dental and I was so worried about losing him. We did all the necessary blood work to make sure everything was functioning properly and I also paid extra for an EKG before the procedure and paid more for a diff kind of anesthetic that is allegedly easier for them to wake up from (I can't think of the name). Anyway he did great! He lost 7 teeth and is a new dog! His spunk and energy are that of a puppy again! It's amazing at now 15 he acts more youthful that my 3 year old yorkie. Now I do regular brushings to maintain his teeth bc I don't think I would ever want him to go under again as he is getting so old. I think at 10 your boy will do well. Just do the necessary testing to make sure everything is healthy beforehand.
