Awe...I feel so bad you and your babies. You'll both be so sad being away from each other!
I agree that with their anxiety, they shouldn't be left at a kennel. It could have irreversible effects on them, where they may be more ill behaved or have elevated separation anxiety when you take them back home after your vacation.
You could try crate training them now, but I'm not sure how much time you have or how effective it could be depending on their age. But even if you could get them somewhat crate trained, you'd probably want to do another test run on a mini getaway to see if they're okay being crated while travelling.
On the other hand, if you don't crate them at the hotel, they'll likely have accidents if left unattended in the hotel room since it's a new place for them. Either way, I'm not sure how it could work out...
Seems like the best and easiest solution would be to find a sitter (trusted friend or family) to take care of them while you're away. At least that way, you'll have somewhat of a peace of mind and can facetime /videochat them if you wanted to.
My own experience....
First time I travelled, we left Scottie at a friend's place who had an older 10 yr old yorkie. It was nice that they knew how to take care of a dog, but I was still worried. After that, I started getting him used to being at my mom's house (sometimes without me there) so that by the time I travelled again the second time, he was A-okay with staying at my mom's place and I felt comfortable leaving him there while I was away.
