I'm guessing he's around 11 now. He was an owner surrender to the pound and I've had him about six years. The vet said he probably had genetically horrible teeth and then I doubt he ever saw a toothbrush. He had a mouthful of poisonous rotten teeth, and he had about half of them removed when I first got him. His mouth was so sensitive that he'd never let me care for them either so I finally ended up having the rest removed a few years ago. He just has three little canines left that help hold his tongue in. He's so much happier without all those nasty teeth though. He was always skinny and pathetic before but now he's gained a few pounds and is a happy and easy going little guy. His little gums are as tough as teeth, and he eats almost everything my other two do. When the others get a bully stick, he gets one too. He licks on it and sucks on the end of it. It's hilarious. I usually let him have it for about an hour and when I take it away from him I have to use a paper towel its so gross. The damage he can do to that thing with just his tongue is amazing.
Anyone that doubts how important dental care is for these little guys would only have to meet our Oscar and they'd never have another doubt.
