I saw that episode too! I've read that a little garlic is okay, and it is in some store bought treats, but she was crushing up big pieces of a clove in the pan. Eeek! I wouldn't risk it.
Other than that, I much prefer her positive reinforcement methods. I tried the Cesar way for about a week and all it did was make puppy Max frustrated, sad, and more reactive. Cesar has some basic good points in his books, common sense things, but his methods of dominating dogs I disagree with.
