Even though he is older, you can most def change his name. The dog will adapt to it eventually. My MIL got a yorkie about 4 years old. She changed her name. We got Toto at almost 8 yrs, and while he does answer to Toto, he also goes by at least a half dozen other names too. Whatever you call the dog, he will be happy to get the attention, so it really doesn't matter.
