Bella started out as a puppy with a thick, cottony coat. However, after her first grooming at 4 months of age, it was clear that she had a silky coat. See her before and after grooming pictures at the bottom on the first page of this thread:

They also say you can tell coat type by the color of the photo flash in the puppy's eyes. Blue flash indicates silky coat and yellow flash indicates cotton coat. Bella also had blue flash.
