THIS year, she has decided that she does not like anything that juts out from a building, like a pipe or a chimney, along with trash bags in front of buildings. She also sometimes thinks that a person holding a child's hand is actually a person walking a dog. OHMYGOD. She does this along with barking like the Tasmanian Devil when she sees a dog when I am walking her. I tried everything to curb it. The First Alert Bark Genie (that worked like a charm for about 6 months), this thing that shot out a burst of air (that worked for about a month), I have tried squirt bottles and positive reinforcement (making her sit and giving her a small piece of a cookie when she didn't bark), NOTHING has worked. I end up picking her up when we are walking and just removing her from being around any dog, all the while apologizing to the poor person who is walking their dog and looking at me in horror.
And I too have done the barking back at her thing, so I know EXACTLY what you are talking about - LOL.
The bottom line is that I have just about given up and try not to get too upset at her because most of the time she is a really, really good dog. Just a little bit nuts the rest of the time!! |
DANG - another Charlie! Thank you so much for your reply - it ain't just Charlie.
Charlie is perfect (
like Beanie) in every other way - but something sure gets them excited. We miss not taking Charlie with us on rides now but I just can't take the crazy barking/screaming anymore. I had to laugh with your description of Beanie jumping around so much in his seat - Charlie gets all twisted around when he goes into that mode. Someday a member will pipe in with a working solution that we both can use. For now - I have a box full of "
solutions" that have worked for other members but not for Charlie!

Thanks again for sharing your experience.
