As a voyeur of this beautiful event I just want to thank everyone who works so hard to bring the thought of just how incredible, elegant and majestic an animal can be. To be seen in their fineness, the announcers taking the time to introduce each breed and their heritage. Each one respected for their attributes, and usually telling the story of man and dog, working together to find the best in themselves.
And the winner is, well,....me, I love watching this event. Thank you Westminister.
So what was your favorite dog, who do you feel won and why? |
What a great attitude Of course as Yorkie lovers it is natural to cheer for our *breed * in the group ring = but Westminster is a very tough crowd to place anywhere in group in - it is a huge win to just win the breed ring.
Here are the top 4 placements in the toy group

All were picks I made but I did not pick the Yorkie to make the cut or for a group placement. Here is what I saw as *star quality in the 4 placements*.
Shih Tzu stunning markings a very nice gait indeed. Alert great head carriage and energy showed they like to be out there. Conservative head grooming very conservative - no elaborate topknots easy to palpate proper shape of the head.
Pekingese that dog for a Peke could move. Showed alert engagement in the ring. Tail carriage correct. FAb coat
The Pomerianian - Wowee the most energy and crowd appeal. That dog really really moved and owned the ring underneath them.
The Italian Greyhound - well I liked the Affenpinscher much better - so not sure why in my mind......
Think of watching ice skaters or any other sport you frequently watch - can't you tell when a couple or an individual is just floating around the ring? Where every movement seems to blend seamlessly into the music?
It takes years of watching and of course learning dog movement and attitude in the ring by breed. But eventually you develop an eye for a dog........
