Agreed. At 10 months I also agree he's too young to be 100% potty trained. I got Scottie at 5 months and crated him until 10 months and decided he might be okay-potty trained. Let him out into a smaller area over night and he had an accident more than once. So back into the crate he went at night. Now, I can finally let him sleep in his crate with the door open at night and he sleeps through the night. But when I'm not home, he stays in the room where his crate is. My idea is better prevention than get mad at him when he has an accident. Free reign everywhere is too much potential for him to have an accident. He's 1 year 9 months now and I still contain him in a room while I'm away. He just sleeps all day anyway and he doesn't freak out in there. With the smaller space, he knows not to 'dirty' it.

Oh and he also started lifting his leg and marking at 5.5 months and neutering at 6 months didn't make a difference (though I neutered him for other the other benefits listed by capt_noonie, not the leg lifting). He now marks everything in the streets but luckily with the crate training and very regular pee schedule, he has never marked anything indoors. I also have a regular feed schedule too, so that I know when to expect poop.

Scottie is 5.5 lbs. He is now trained to potty outdoors 3 times a day. Once in the morning, a long walk after work, and once before bed. Because he marks, I make sure there's nothing left dripping after 10 markings lol
I think the size of the pup makes a difference too, in addition to age. Some don't have very big bladders and can't hold it as long.

Last, I read many times, our pups behaviours happen unknowingly based on what we let happen. They don't know what's "good" or "bad". It's up to us to shape it and prevent things we think are "bad"

So don't be too hard on the little guy. Neutering probably won't solve the pottying indoors, you'll need to confine him in the crate over night. If he's marking during the day while you're at home, maybe tether him to you?
