Neutering will help. It will lessen his desire to mark. Also if done early enough, will make a tremendous improvement on the urine smell. You are making the right decision getting him neutered. Unneutered dogs also have a higher risk of certain cancers, and are more prone to run away if they smell a female in heat, even miles away!
As for the peeing, you need to have him on a schedule. Feed at the same time every day. Of course always have water down. Take up water a few hours before bedtime. Always take him out before bed. When you are gone, confine him to certain rooms of the house like bathroom or kitchen, or crate him. We crate Toto. He will get used to it.
Toto is also not the best with potty training. He's not the type of dog that will tell you when he wants to go out. I just have to keep an eye on him all the time. Mostly he sleeps while I am on the computer. If I see he jumps down I will call to him, pick him up and take him outside. I keep a collar with a bell on it so I can hear when he moves around.
Lastly, Beowulf is WAY too young to be 100% potty trained. Of course there are yorkies that have been trained by 5 months, but still not 100% NEVER having accidents. Just keep at it. Don't get lazy. Take him out every two hours or so.
