CT is managed with cough suppressants like Hycodan. When the trachea collapses, the dog coughs and it creates more collapsing and more coughing. The cough suppressants work on the brain to shut off the cough. They can still cough through it. My dog is on high doses, but it's a quality of life thing. Most dogs with CT are managed medically and not surgically.
