Here's what I was told and it worked really well when a dog came to stay with us.
Best to meet on neutral ground so meet outside your house and go for a short walk together. In the house keep the new dog on the lead while you show them around, only let them go in the rooms you want them to access. Put their stuff, bed and food bowls where you will keep them and set the boundaries very early on.
