I am sure many of you will remember Summer from years ago with her horrible bite wounds...and then we had Lily Rose.
Well now Yorkie Haven Rescue has a precious boy named Charlie. We have no idea what happened to him but it does look like he was bitten ... but there are scrapes all over that look like road burn.
I am posting this to let people know that any time a pup is bitten by another animal it can get severely infected. The pup should be seen and treated immediately. I am also asking for prayers for Charlie as he is not out of the woods yet. He is in ICU at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston.
To make my life easier tonight, I am just going to paste below the updates on Charlie that are posted on Facebook and on the YHR website.......
1/29/16 - Charlie was found in a yard yesterday and taken to a shelter. We were notified of him this morning and picked him up from the shelter. He has multiple bite wounds, bruised and was in shock. He has what appears to be road rash on feet and rear and a very swollen neck. Dehydrated. Blood sugar very low (26). Our vet checked him thoroughly, stabilized him for transport and referred him to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston where he has been admitted to ICU.
Charlie is in critical (but stable for now) condition. His blood sugar and blood pressure are unstable. He may have some underlying health issues and he is being evaluated for that. He is on IV fluids and antibiotics. We will update as we hear more about him .. and about his testing.
1/30/16 - Charlie had surgery tonight to explore his wounds and debride them.. The surgeon called at 10 PM to let us know how things went. Poor Charlie had a very large area of necrosis on his neck. For now, it is closed up with a drain in it; but if the infection continues, he will lose more skin/tissue and that could present some real problems in terms of closing the wound. His antibiotics are being changed to something stronger until we get his infection under control. He will remain in ICU until he is physically stable and then will be moved to the surgery unit for wound care. He really needs prayers.
1/31/16 - Charlie is not yet out of the woods, but is hanging in.

These photos were taken by the shelter and were what made me go get him...I was horrified when I saw them.

He was almost unresponsive due to his hypoglycemia. He had been at the shelter since the day before with no meds...nothing.

Was not even seen by a vet. Heartbreaking.
