I would find a specialist, a cardiologist....I would be certain of the exact nature of the condition the vet has given you to date. You can always proceed much more effectively from a position of being completely informed. When the diagnosis was fixed as accurate and exact, then you proceed with a treatment plan from that position.
They have very effective medication they give for this condition....I had a little girl years ago with a severe heart issue, she received medication for it and she lived an additional 10 years! I had another little pet in my group, that also developed an enlarged heart with a murmur....she was put on meds that relieved the workload on her little heart, and she lived an additional 10 years on medication.... Your baby is 10 years old....with meds and some adjustments to activity level this baby could go another 5-7 years!! Just like all of us that develop conditions as we age, meds and activity levels can be adjusted and many additional years of a happy, fulfilled life can be expected for this baby!
(FYI and clarity: these little dogs were NOT in my breeding program....they were little yorkies I had bought from individuals, before I knew how this all works with crooked back yard breeders!)
