I am sorry for your and your son's loss, I am glad you are looking for another. I am a former cat owner, for years and I love them but had to stop with my last one going to the rainbow bridge because the allergies med just were not working so well.
Honestly the best cats I have owned where just plain old mixed breed rescue cats from the shelter. I have had them all, orange cats, tabby cats, big cats, kittens. Some were great cats, some were aloof jerks who only liked me (but that is okay that was acceptable for me).
I miss having a cat but know I needed to stop when meds and vacuuming twice a day were not helping.
