I am lost at what to do with her as far as training.
Dogs tend to sleep a lot when their humans are away, so she likely has a lot of stored up energy when you arrive home from work. I have my boys with me all day, but they still rest a lot while I'm doing my work, and are pretty wired when I take them for their walks or car rides to do our errands. It's really hard during the winter with the weather and limited sunlight hours.

Does she like fetch? We play fetch in the house to try to drain energy.

Keep your attempts at training sessions brief, but frequent. Have her perform her sit and down in the morning and several times in the evening. Don't give up hope. Even dogs with longer attention spans can take longer to learn a new command. My Teddy took almost a year to learn "shake hands." Even with a brother to follow, he couldn't understand why I wanted him to do it. Now he has a very nice handshake.

1 year old is still very young and these little ones are still very precocious at that age. My Teddy is still changing at almost 7 years old.
