Hi, I am not a groomer but do groom my Yorkie and my poodle. Mine has been trial and error, I'm sure others will have more tips for you. I use regular hair cutting scissors that you can pick up at wal-mart or Sally's beauty supply. I use Wahl clippers for his private area and to trim his little rump. Both the clippers and scissors service me well. Do not go out and pour $100+ in expensive scissors, you drop them once and they are done, the ones at Walmart in the hair section works well for around $13. I do not use thinning shears. I have found my brushes and combs are the most important, a rat tail comb, stiff tooth "flea" comb, pin brush and slicker brush. There is a lady on here that sales brushes and combs, I haven't ordered from her yet but intend to, I have looked at her website and she has excellent selections and great prices, hopefully someone will come along with her name for you or look under Yorkie talk sellers reviews. Good luck!
