I have used the eye wash to clean under the eyes but the real answer is to stay on top of it and clean the area every day to keep it from building up and getting crusty. One of mine has spring allergies and the eye buggers are a daily battle for a couple of months. My vet suggested a little dab of Neosporin under each eye. It's a little messy but it keeps the skin from becoming irritated and the eye buggers wipe right off with a wet cotton ball. Burt's Bees makes a mild, soothing eye wash for dogs.
