We considered that approach - just uncomfortable using it right now - but appreciate the suggestion. Right now Charlie goes nuts if we are pulling into a parking lot - entering or exiting a highway (
ramps), etc. He eventually stops for a while and lies down (
probably exhausted!) for a brief spell. When he gets barking - he seems to be zoned out so not sure if he even hears us saying "
quiet." So, today we are going to run up to the pet store and see if we can find a "
Ultrasonic" thingy or a "
Dog Whistle" to help us get his attention so he can hear us say "QUIET!" and "
MAYBE" give him a treat when (
if) he stops. The reason I say "
maybe" is because right now - we trained him to use potty pads (
giving him a treat when he does) and we are dealing with him walking on the pad - tight circle - not peeing or pooping BUT running up to us (
little feet rubbing routine) and wanting a treat! We even watched him stick his head over the pad - turn around, run up to us and go into his routine for a treat! I am kind of afraid he will stop barking, get a treat, wait a few minutes and start barking again, stop when we say "
quite" and expect a treat. Heck, he might start barking in the house so we can say "quite" and give him a treat -
OMG - just talked myself out of giving him a treat if he stops barking -
NO STOP BARKING TREAT!
Will let ya know how this goes.
