I have ficus trees in the house that are over 30 years old. They are not poisonous, although eating the tiny fruit they produce in the spring could cause gastric upset. They are not a true fig, so not poisonous.
I got rid of my other plants because they were poisonous to dogs. Flowering plants are usually very dangerous.
Your new dog probably won't bother a potted plant, but a fallen leaf or flower on the floor is likely to be attractive to taste or chew.
Even outdoors, I have to watch my boys closely. Azaleas for instance, which are very toxic, are prevalent here in Virginia.
