Yorkies have a huge problem with their teeth. From what I've read it's because of their small mouth. From others I've met on the street, the first thing they ask me is if my yorkie still has his teeth. The first time I heard that, I thought it was bizarre, thinking, of course he does! But then, almost all of these strangers told me that by the time theirs was 2 or 3, their yorkies lost most or all their teeth!
I was worried and did a lot of reading and to some degree what they've said is quite true. I didn't want Scottie to suffer and not have teeth for his whole life so I brush very regularly (every day or at least 5 times a week), despite the fact that he hates it.
If Lady Bug is already 1.5 years, and if she hasn't been used to having her teeth brushed, you may have some challenges. Just be patient...and continue to try. Take it slow (clicker training works great with treats), reward lots afterwards with some form of positive reinforcement, and good luck!! If you're consistent, she'll get used to it soon enough (even though she may hate it). She'll thank you for it later (plus gets rid of the bad bad yorkie breath haha).
p.s. Merry Christmas!!
