What a wonderful Christmas gift for both of you! Insofar as his skittishness, just be very patient, sooth him, but also tell him "C'mon now, that's only a chair being moved..." in a practical voice as you don't want to encourage him to be scared (hope that makes a little sense). Maybe carry him around the house occasionally and while holding him, close cabinets, move chairs, etc., so he can see what is making the noise from the safety of your arms. And again, in calm, but practical voice, tell him he's fine, it's just that old chair. As mentioned, take it easy for awhile...He's in a brand new, big, and pretty scary world. Lot's of love and patience will bring changes. You sound like a very caring and understanding person and he's very lucky to be yours!
