Because Chanel's hair starting breaking with elastics in also, I switched to putting small plastic barrettes in her hair. They did not seem to break the hair at all. You can get them very cheap at pharmacies. Just after Chanel was bathed, the barrettes would not stay in very well because the hair was too slippery, but the next day they would.
